Review: Hurts To Love You by Alisha Rai

Well-behaved women don’t lust after men who love to misbehave.  Heiress Evangeline Chandler knows how to keep a secret . . . like her life-long crush on the tattooed hottie who just happens to be her big brother’s friend. She’s a Chandler, after all, and Chandlers don’t hook up with the help. Then again, they also don’t disobey their fathers and quit their respectable jobs, so good-girl rules may no longer apply. Gabriel Hunter hides the pain of his past behind a smile, but he can’t hide his sudden attraction to his friend’s sheltered little sister. Eve is far too sweet to accept anything less than forever and there’s no chance of a future between the son of a housekeeper and the town’s resident princess. When a wedding party forces Eve and Gabe into tight quarters, keeping their hands off each other will be as hard as keeping their clothes on. The need that draws them together is stronger than the forces that should shove them apart . . . but their sparks may not survive the exp

Love is funny. Even though you don't have that person anymore, you still have the feeling. You don't lose your love. You lost the tangible, tactile, sense-sational ability to experience the person or animal you lost.   Grief is all about not being able to touch anymore. Not being able to use your senses to experience them on a physical level. They've moved beyond an impenetrable veil, beyond your hands and mouth and eyes. High Voltage by Karen Marie Moning.

“Did you run any of this by Curran?” “I told him I was about to do something idiotic and dangerous, and he told me to go ahead and let him know if he could help in any way.” “I don’t understand your relationship.” Ilona Andrews, Magic Binds (Kate Daniels Series #9)

I kissed him with devotion, with raw sexual reverence, starved to cut loose like this. I offered him my prayer, my challenge, the one that had gone eternally unanswered: Are you there? Are you as painfully alive and aware as me? Can you feel how much I’m giving you when I touch you like this? Are you worth me? In other words, to my complete and utter horror, I kissed Ryodan with my whole heart. And that fuck so did not deserve it. ~ Karen Marie Moning, High Voltage

ARC Review: Sinner by Sierra Simone

Zee and I told you about our lust love for Sierra Simone's Priest in our review here . That book has become our Gold Standard for exceptional smut paired with soul-searching depth in an erotic romance novel. So we were understandably thrilled to learn that Father Bell's big brother, Sean, was going to get his own tale.  We didn't know what to expect from Sinner , we just knew that we had to have it, so we jumped all over the chance to be a stop on Ms. Simone's release day blog tour and to get our filthy hands on the book a few days early. Come with me through the jump and I'll tell you all the dirty details about the second installment in the saga of the Bell Brothers. Okay, that's not true--I'm not going to give you spoilery details, but I will tell you why I loved it, and if you loved Priest you'll want to pick up Sinner , too.

Soothsayer: Caesar! Caesar: Ha! who calls? Casca: Bid every noise be still: peace yet again! Caesar: Who is it in the press that calls on me? I hear a tongue, shriller than all the music, Cry 'Caesar!' Speak; Caesar is turn'd to hear. Soothsayer: Beware the ides of March. Caesar: What man is that? Brutus: A soothsayer bids you beware the ides of March. Caesar: Set him before me; let me see his face. Cassius: Fellow, come from the throng; look upon Caesar. Caesar: What say'st thou to me now? speak once again. Soothsayer: Beware the ides of March. Caesar: He is a dreamer; let us leave him: pass. Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare

Quote of the Day

I'm not a woman who often looks back. I measure actions by results, and peering into the past rarely yields any. Reflecting on something that hurts you only prolongs your pain, and when death is involved, the pain is often compounded by a  relentless sense of guilt that attacks the moment you start to heal, as if duration of grief somehow proves the depth of your love for the person you lost.  High Voltage ~~Karen Marie Moning

The Wenches' January Book of the Month: The Woman in the Window

Image
Well, Readers, it's time to check in and see what we thought of our January Book of the Month: The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn. Wench Angela started off our 2018 with this post about the book, and a lot of us took the plunge into the often muddled mind of Anna Fox! (PS- Did you know A.J.Finn is a total fox? Wench Anne accidentally stumbled upon a picture and HELLO! Authors are already rock stars for us, but it's always a welcome surprise when they look like they could be on a magazine cover just because they're pretty!) Click through to see what we though!

Yet this is the war my life has been shoving me toward since my mother carried me in her womb. I can either be a victim — or a winner. Fuck victimhood. I don’t wear it well; it clashes with my wardrobe. I’m ready. Only one of us is getting out alive. It’s going to be me. ~ Karen Marie Moning, Feversong

Hope builds a stairway to Heaven. Fear opens an abyss to Hell. We stand in front of those two possible apertures at all times; choose which one to go through.  Was it possible the only thing that had given the Book control over me in that moment--was me? I'm stupefied by my next thought: What if the war between us has always been nothing more than a battle of will? And it knows it. I'm the only one that doesn't. Feversong ~~Karen Marie Moning

Everything pissed Barrons off. He lived on the razor's edge of eternal irritation. No doubt because he had to put up with mere mortals who thought too much when a good massacre would not only be more effective but much more fun.  Feversong ~~Karen Marie Moning

Review: Origin

Image
In 2003, Dan Brown took the literary world by storm with the release of The DaVinci Code . Everyone read it, even people that aren't regular readers. Everyone was talking about it. It was the best selling book of that year. Suddenly, Mr. Brown and his charming protagonist, Robert Langdon, were household names. The two have gone on to have three other adventures, not to mention the book released previous to The DaVinci Code , Angels and Demons . Mr. Brown's most recent work, and Langdon's most recent adventure, Origin , is why we are here today. Origin was released in October of 2017 to decent critical reviews and mostly positive reader reviews. This particular reader listened to Origin a little ways back. Keep reading after the jump to find out what I thought about it. I will try to keep the spoilers to a minimum.
